February 18, 2007
Hampton, VA- The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association would
like to welcome one of women's basketball's officiating pioneers,
Angie Lewis, to deliver the keynote address at the 2007 CIAA
Women's Tip-Off Banquet on Sunday, February 25 at the Westin Hotel,
Charlotte, NC. This annual event will open the 2007 Women's
Basketball Tournament at Charlotte Bobcats Arena.
Ms. Lewis is currently employed as a lieutenant in the Metropolitan
Police Department in Washington, DC, where she works diligently
enforcing the rules of society and improving the Washington, D.C.
police community. She devotes herself to a rigorous work ethic both
on and off the court.
Angie was one of the first women to be asked to officiate for the
American Basketball League in 1996 and later for the WNBA in its
inaugural season in 1997. She has officiated for many
conferences including the ACC, SEC, Big East, Big 10, Atlantic 10,
CAC and the CIAA. She began her officiating career with the
CAC in 1990 and joined the IIABO Board # 134, the Baltimore Board
of Officials, in 1992.
Along with her officiating accomplishments she is also an active
member in her community, volunteering her services where
needed. Ms. Lewis is a highly spiritual person who truly
works to make a difference in both her lieutenant position and her
officiating career. She volunteers giving speeches, workshops
and clinics for the Maryland State Department of Education,
Maryland Special Olympics and works closely with various summer
camps to enhance the self-development of officials, players, and
coaches.
