DEFENDING CHAMPS OF BOWIE STATE STILL IN BOWLING TITLE HUNT

(CHARLOTTE, NC)  The first eliminations of the 2007 CIAA Women's Bowling Championships took place on Monday (11/12) which was day two of the three day tournament , but did not include the two-time defending champions of Bowie State University.

To determine who would fill the eight slots in the first to four wins double elimination baker match bracket, the ten participating schools bowled three rounds of cross divisional and all divisional baker matches. Johnson C. Smith University and Livingstone College had the lowest totals and were eliminated from contention.

Shaw University entered the bracket as the seventh seed only to be dismissed after losing to the second seed Bowie State University (4-1-1) and to the fifth seed Elizabeth City State University in the loser's bracket (4-2). Eighth seeded Virginia Union University was also sent home early after being defeated by the top seed, Fayetteville State University (4-2) and sixth seeded St. Augustine's College.

St. Paul's College (#4 Seed) and Fayetteville State went unbeaten in the championship bracket; the two remaining schools in the winner's bracket will compete on to advance to the semi-finals.

The 2007 CIAA Bowling Championships will conclude - Tuesday (11/13) with the quarterfinals, semi-finals, and championship match.   A complete list of Monday results is as follows:
