SHAW CAPTURES FOURTH CONSECUTIVE CIAA MEN'S TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP

Petersburg, VA - In the final day of singles competition, all six of Shaw University's number one seeds emerged as their respective singles competition champions. Shaw served for a sum of 63 team points to claim their fourth consecutive championship crown.
The feat completes their sweep of doubles and singles
championships. The title of runner-up was designated to Johnson C.
Smith University for their accumulation of 51 points. In third
place was host Virginia State University with 47 points as Virginia
Union University finished in fourth place with 35 points. St.
Augustine's College totaled 26 points to take fifth place and St.
Paul's College stood at the sixth place position with 15
points.
In the No. 1 Singles, Shaw's No. 1 seed Alexandre
Lord-Andrade defeated Virginia State's No. 2 seed John Lanier. The
2008 CIAA Men's Tennis Player of the Year took the triumph 6 - 4, 6
- 0.
In the No. 2 Singles, Shaw's No. 1 seed Milos Stankovic defeated
Johnson C. Smith's No. 2 seed Romar Douglas 6 - 1, 6 - 0.
In the No. 3 Singles, Shaw's No. 1 seed Medhi Ben Cheikh defeated
Johnson C. Smith's No. 2 seed Aaron Hutcherson 6 - 1, 6 - 1.
In the No. 4 Singles, Shaw's No. 1 seed Kalada Kienka defeated
Johnson C. Smith's No. 2 seed Jamil Jones 6 - 2, 6 - 2.
In the No. 5 Singles, Shaw's No. 1 seed Olayiwola Enitan defeated
Virginia State's No. 2 seed Amir James 6 - 0, 6 - 1.
In the No. 6 Singles, Shaw's No. 1 seed Alexandro Ordonez defeated
Johnson C. Smith's No. 2 seed Andrew Anglin in three matches by a
result of 3 - 6, 6 - 4, 6 - 1.
At the conclusion of competition, gatherers filed into the middle
fenced in court for the championship announcements and
presentations.
After all the men's runners ups and champions for doubles and singles were presented with plaques, Shaw's Lord-Andrade was honored with a thunderous ovation as he was named 2008 CIAA Men's Tennis Championship Most Valuable Player.
