SHAW SECURES SIX NO. ONE SEEDS AS JCSU, VSU SPLIT NO. TWO SEEDS FOR CIAA SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIPS

Petersburg, VA -Day two of the Men's Tennis CIAA Championships showcased just how defined the "will to win" attitude of each competing student-athlete was. Semifinals competition concluded with Western Division Champions, Shaw University, safely securing all No. 1 seeds in each of the six singles competitions. Whereas, Johnson C.

Smith University and host Virginia State University each split the No. 2 seeds at three each.

In the No. 1 Singles, 2008 CIAA Men's Tennis Player of the Year and Shaw's No. 1 seed Alexandre Lord-Andrade held his opponent, St.

Augustine's College No. 4 seed Michael Roberson, scoreless for a 6 - 0, 6 - 0 victory. Also, Virginia State's All-Conference No. 2 seed John Lanier defeated Johnson C. Smith's All-Conference No. 3 seed Jason Stuckey with a match result of 6 - 1, 2 - 6, 6 - 3. Third place was awarded to Stuckey after he defeated Roberson 8 - 3.

In the No. 2 Singles, Shaw's All-Conference No. 1 seed Milos Stankovic defeated Virginia Union's No. 4 seed Gil Hernandez 6 -1, 6 - 0. Johnson C. Smith's All-Conference No. 2 seed succeeded in his tri-match showdown against Virginia State's No. 3 seed Javan Gardinier with a result of 6 - 3, 5 - 7, 6 - 2. Third place was awarded to Hernandez after a retire 5 - 2 defeat of Gardinier.

In the No. 3 Singles, Shaw's All-Conference No. 1 seed Medhi Ben Cheikh defeated Virginia Union's No. 4 seed Wayne Motley 6 - 0, 6 - 0. Johnson C. Smith's All-Conference No. 2 seed Aaron Hutcherson defeated Virginia State's No. 3 seed Daron Jack 6 - 1, 6 - 1. Third place was awarded to Jack after he defeated Motley 8 - 0.

In the No. 4 Singles, Shaw's All-Conference No. 1 seed Kalada Kienka defeated Virginia Union's No. 4 seed William Crump in a result of 6 - 4, 7 - 6, 7 - 5. Johnson C. Smith's All-Conference No. 2 seed Jamil Jones defeated Virginia State's No. 3 seed Wu Richardson 6 - 0, 6  - 0. Third place was awarded to Richardson with his 8 - 1 defeat of Crump.

In the No. 5 Singles, Shaw's All-Conference No. 1 seed Olayiwola Enitan defeated Virginia Union's No. 4 seed James McLean 7 - 5, 6 - 1. Virginia State's All-Conference No. 2 seed Amir Jones defeated Johnson C. Smith's No. 3 seed George Dixon 6 - 0, 6 - 1. Third place was awarded to Dixon after he defeated McLean 8 - 0.

In the No. 6 Singles, Shaw's All-Conference No. 1 seed Alexandro Ordonez shutout Virginia Union's No. 4 seed Dan Metzger 6 - 0, 6 - 0. Johnson C.

Smith's No. 3 seed served the biggest upset of the day after his defeat of Virginia State's No. 2 seed Travis Jones with a result of 4 - 6, 6 -1, 6 - 2. Third place was awarded to Jones after he defeated Metzger 8 - 0.

Everything is on the line as all final contenders attempt to cash in on their effort to stand alone in championship circle. The singles championships will occur tomorrow (April 19th) as follows:
