Bowie State three-peats as CIAA Softball Champions

(PETERSBURG, Va.) History was made as the Bowie State
University defended their back-to-back CIAA Championship, routing
Fayetteville State University 9-1 to claim their third conference
crown in a row.
The Lady Bulldogs jumped on FSU's Lady Broncos from the opening
pitch, bolting out to a 3-0 advantage at the end of the first
inning. Bowie State put three more on the board in the bottom
of the second inning to increase the lead to 6-0.

Fayetteville State scored their only run the top half of
the third inning when Alicia Frank singled to left field, scoring
LaTonia Gatling.
Bowie State (24-6) responded by adding two runs in the bottom of
the third and ended the game early on a triple by Tiffany Toney
which scored Danielle McClay from first. Toney was named the
Championship game MVP.
Toney, Tricia Corbin and Danielle McClay led BSU's Lady Bulldogs
with a pair of hits each. Corbin recorded a game-high four
RBI for Bowie State.
Fayetteville State (26-25) was led by Rahkee Smith with three hits
on the afternoon and April Branch added two hits.
With the Bowie State win, the Lady Bulldogs advance to the NCAA
Division II Atlantic Regionals.
