CIAA ANNOUNCES 2010 MEN’S ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM

Petersburg, VA – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association named the 2010 All-CIAA Men’s Tennis Team on Wednesday evening during the Spring Sports Championship Awards Ceremony held inside Harris Hall on the campus of Virginia State University. Fabio Falcato (Sao Paulo, Brazil) from Shaw University was awarded the Men’s Player of the Year and McKenzie Bean (Hamilton, Bermuda) from Johnson C. Smith University took home Rookie of the Year honors.
Falcato competed at the No. 1 spot in singles and doubles the entire season. In singles, Falcato is ranked seventh in the Atlantic region and concluded the year 17-8 overall and 12-0 in the CIAA. Falcato and fellow All-CIAA selection Medhi Ben-Cheikh (Marsalispin, Tunisia) partnered at No. 1 doubles for a 19-6 overall finish and 11-1 in the conference.
Other All-CIAA honorees from Shaw include Milos Stankovic (Montenegro, Serbia), Kalada Kienka (Lagos, Nigeria), Martin Faison (Boykins, VA), and Antoine Jacobs (Vallejo, CA).
Johnson C. Smith had three student-athletes selected All-CIAA and Bean named Rookie of the Year. Jason Stuckey (Cincinnati, OH), Aaron Hutcherson (Cincinnati, OH), and Jamil Jones (Atlanta, GA) represent the Golden Bulls on the all-conference team. Stuckey competed in No. 1 singles and doubles with partner Hutcherson all season for JCSU. Hutcherson played at the No. 3 and 4 singles positions, followed by Jones at the fifth singles spot. Bean played in the No. 2 singles and doubles slot with partner Robert Butts. Bean was 16-9 overall and 12-2 in the CIAA for singles competition.
Virginia State University had Harrison Gaskins (Newport News, VA) and John Lanier (Richmond, VA) honored with all-conference selections. Gil Hernandez (East Palo Alto, CA) rounds out All-CIAA team as the lone representative from Virginia Union University.
All 12 student-athletes will be competing for their institution in the 2010 Men’s Tennis Championships April 15-17th at the VSU Tennis Complex. A champion will be determined on Saturday, April 17th, barring inclement weather.
