Top Seeds victorious in Day One of CIAA Softball Championships

Top seeds Bowie State and Chowan were winners in their first two games of the 2010 CIAA Softball Championships at the Petersburg (VA) Sports Complex.
Defending champion and Eastern Division top seed BSU knocked off Shaw, 8-0, and Johnson C. Smith, 5-3, to advance to a winners bracket showdown with Chowan. The Hawks, top seed in the Western Division, only allowed one run in their wins over Elizabeth City State (12-0) and Virginia State (11-1).
BSU and CU will meet at 12:30pm Friday at the softball field on the campus of Virginia State University.
Shaw and Fayetteville State survived their first elimination games with wins over St. Paul's (SU 14, SPC 5) and Elizabeth City State (FSU 9, ECSU 1)). The Lady Bears meet Johnson C. Smith while the Lady Broncos face Virginia State in elimination games Friday morning at the Petersburg Sports Complex. The winners of those two games will meet at 12:30 to determine who faces the loser of the Bowie State vs. Chowan contest.
