DURHAM, N.C. – Defending league champion Fayetteville State University and Bowie State University each won two games to stay unbeaten in the winner’s bracket of double-elimination bracket play Sunday, March 25, 2012 on the second day of the CIAA Women’s Bowling Championships held at AMF Durham Lanes.

Fayetteville State, the Southern Division champion, beat Livingstone College 4-1 and Winston-Salem State University 4-0 in best-of-seven Baker matches. Bowie State bested Virginia State University 4-2 and Northern Division champ Elizabeth City State University 4-1. Both FSU and Bowie State square off Monday morning in a rematch of last year’s CIAA championship finals.

Fayetteville State and Bowie State are two of six teams remaining in the three-day tournament. Saint Augustine’s College faces Winston-Salem State and Elizabeth City State tangles with Virginia State University in the elimination bracket Monday.  All four teams finished 1-1 in bracket play Sunday. Both Livingstone College and Chowan University were ousted from the tournament after losing two consecutive matches.

Fayetteville State gained the top seed in bracket play after amassing the most pins combined (6,375) from four cross divisional team matches on Saturday and four cross divisional Baker matches on Sunday. The three-day tournament concludes Monday with bracket play determining the conference champion.
