New Kent, VA – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) will host its 2018 Golf Championships in New Kent, VA on Thursday, April 19 – Friday, April 20. Eight (8) CIAA men’s golf teams will complete for the 2018 Championship Title at The Club at Viniterra. The event is free and open to the public.
The CIAA Golf Championship opening ceremony is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Thursday while teams will tee off for Round One at 9:00 a.m. Friday will feature Round Two beginning at 9:00 a.m. with the championship awards ceremony to be held at the conclusion of competition.
The Blue Bears of Livingstone College are the CIAA's top team of the regular season, having won both the Northern and Southern Division Tournaments. Last year, the Blue Bears finished in 3rd behind the Runner-Up Panthers of Virginia Union and Champion Hawks of Chowan University. The Livingstone men's golf team won their last conference championship title in 2015. The Blue Bears will need to fend off the Hawks who will be seeking to secure their 3rd consecutive CIAA Men's Golf Championship.

Athletes to watch at the upcoming CIAA Golf Championship include Sam Cudjoe of Saint Augustine's University who earned low medalist at the Southern Division Tournament with a 138 stroke total (-4 Par) and tied for second place in the Northern Division Tournament (151, +7 Par). Cudjoe currently leads all CIAA men's golfers averaging 73.25 strokes per round. Elizabeth City State's Tyler Futrell led the Northern Division Tournament, scoring only 7 over par for a total of 151 strokes.
