Winston-Salem State University freshman guard Teara Johnson has continued impress in her first season with the program as she was named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Rookie of the Week, Tuesday. Tuesday?s honor marked the second time that Johnson has been recognized by the CIAA.

The Winston-Salem State Rams (4-12, 2-5 CIAA) gave a tremendous effort to overcome a slow first half, but the Rams fell short in a 74-65 loss to the Saint Augustine?s Falcons (9-9, 6-1 CIAA) in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division opener, Saturday afternoon. Shooting woes from the floor and at the free throw line cost the Rams in the hard-fought loss.

The Winston-Salem State Rams (7-9, 2-5 CIAA) had another offensive breakout when the team took a dominating 100-59 win over the Saint Augustine?s Falcons (4-12, 1-6 CIAA), Saturday afternoon. For the third time in their last five games, the Rams reached the century mark with 100 points in the game. The team combined the effort with a strong defensive performance to claim the victory.

    RALEIGH, NC ? Former Winston-Salem State football coach and athletic director William ?Bill? Hayes will have to make more room on an already crowded trophy case as he was among the fifteen 2018 inductees selected for the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame. Hayes earned the induction after a legendary coaching career that included stints at Winston-Salem State and North Carolina A&T.

The Rams had a solid showing in the game, but the team didn?t have what it took to keep up with the Vikings, Monday.

After scoring 101 points, Saturday, the Rams were held to just 46 points in their final game of a three-game Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Northern Division road trip.

    MURFREESBORO, NC ? The Winston-Salem State Rams (6-8, 1-3 CIAA) bounced back in a big way to take a 101-96 overtime road win over the Chowan Lady Hawks (11-3, 3-1 CIAA), Saturday afternoon. The Rams took the win behind a pair of dominating performances from senior center Kandace Tate and junior forward Brionna Pate as the two combined to score 66 of the Rams points in the win.

The Winston-Salem State Rams (4-7, 2-2 CIAA) staged a late comeback, but the team came up short in a 78-73 road loss to the #17 Virginia State Trojans (12-1, 2-1 CIAA), Friday evening. The Rams trailed for much of the second half, but tied the game in the final minutes of play, but the team could not get the win as the Trojans hit some key shots and free throws to hand the Rams the loss.

    WINSTON-SALEM, NC ? The Winston-Salem State Rams (5-7) had a spectacular effort with the team took an historic 103-81 win over the West Virginia State Yellowjackets (3-9), Sunday afternoon. The Rams? 103 points were the most that the team scored since 2003 and gave the team a tremendous end to 2017. The Rams last scored 100 points in a 2012 win at Saint Augustine?s and the team scored 116 points in a 2003 win over Bennett College.

    CHARLOTTE, NC ? The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) announced its 2018 inductions into the John B. McLendon, Jr. Hall of Fame, Monday afternoon. Among the 2018 inductees will be former Winston-Salem State head football coach Kermit Blount and the 1967 Winston-Salem State University Rams men?s basketball team. After historic careers both on the football field and on the basketball courts, the honors are well deserved for the inductees.

The Winston-Salem State Rams (4-8, 2-1 CIAA) got their second straight Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) win in dramatic fashion with 69-67 win over the Bowie State Bulldogs (5-8, 0-2 CIAA), Monday evening. After falling behind by as many as 18 points in the second half, the Rams staged a furious comeback, highlighted by a pair of free throws, a key block, and a game-winning drawn charge by junior forward Jamel McAllister to claim the win for the Rams.

After controlling the first half of play, the Rams faded in the second half as Bowie State pulled away to claim the victory.

    WINSTON-SALEM, NC ? The Winston-Salem State Rams (3-8, 1-1 CIAA) got back to their winning ways, Saturday afternoon when the team took a 64-56 win over the Lincoln (Pa.) Lions (6-6, 1-1 CIAA). The Rams turned to their defense to get the win as they held the Lions to just 56 points and shooting just 34.4% (21-of-61) from the floor.

The Rams played a strong defensive game, but the team found points hard to come by against a tough Lions defensive effort in the game.

The Rams held the lead for much of the game, but a second half surge from the Panthers put the game out of reach for the Rams and gave the team a loss in their Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) opener.
