The CIAA Announces the 2006 Men's and Women's All-Conference Basketball Honors, Player and Defensive Player of the Year

Hampton, VA ... The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association is honored to observe its selection for the 2006 CIAA All-conference Men's and Women's teams. The 2005-2006 Player of the Year title belongs to Darius Hargrove of Virginia Union University. Hargrove, a 6'4" senior, guard from Warfield,VA, ended the regular season with an average of 16.4 ppg along with a free throw percentage of 85 %.
Johnson C. Smith University forward John Fulton claimed the 2005-2006 Defensive Player of the Year. Fulton, a senior, forward standing at 6'6", leads the conference in the defensive rebounding category with an average of 6 per game. He also averaged almost 2 steals per game making him 7th in the conference.
On the women's side Nastassia Boucicault of the defending champions Shaw University was granted 2005-2006 Player of the Year honors. Boucicault, a 5'6", senior guard from Brooklyn, NY averaged 16.1 ppg accompanied by a 5.23 assist average and a 2nd place ranking average of 3.3 in steals.
Deanna Price of Elizabeth City State University grasped the 2005-2006 Defensive Player of the Year award. The junior guard, standing at 5'7", was ranked 9th in defensive rebounding for the year, helping her team clinch a #1 ranking in the defensive rebounding category.
The All Conference Teams and Players of the Year will be honored at the Women's and Men's Tip-Off Banquets which will be held at The Westin Hotel in Charlotte on Sunday, February 26 and February 28, 2006 at 6:30 pm, respectively.
