CIAA "Springs" Into Action: Coaches of the Year Selected

Hampton, VA...The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Executive Committee convened again to select this year's honored Spring Coaches of the Year.

Larry Keen of North Carolina Central University returns to grace with his second consecutive Softball Coach of the Year honor.  Keen returned this season, capturing the CIAA Softball Championship, and finishing with the same, near perfect conference record as last year.

Virginia State University's Merrill Morgan has also earned his second Baseball Coach of the Year honor in a row.  After a tie-breaking championship loss to Shaw, the VSU Trojans finished their season with a (16-5, 20-12) record.  

Sunday Enitan of Shaw University celebrates his third consecutive Men's Tennis Coach of the Year recognition.  Coach Enitan directs both the Men's and Women's Tennis Teams, leading them to take both championship titles this year.  The Shaw Bears finished 6-0, 14-0, 16-0 in play this season.

Coach Elorine Hill of Fayetteville State University led the Lady Broncos towards the top of the conference this year, finishing as runners up in the CIAA Women's Tennis Championship. They are proud of a perfect conference record, finishing 10-0, 16-0, 18-4 in the regular season.

Elizabeth City State University's Lavern Jones has been selected as the Golf Coach of the Year. The Vikings finished 4th in the conference golf championship a notable improvement from 2005.

Bowie State University's Marc Harrison is our two-time Outdoor Women's Track and Field Coach of the Year.  Harrison can be credited with bringing home Bowie State's first ever Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship title.

The Men's Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year, George Williams of St. Augustine's College, led the men's team (212pts) to a 69-point lead to victory over second place, North Carolina Central

The 2006 CIAA Coaches of the Year will be honored at the Annual CIAA Coach of the Year Luncheon on May 23, 2006 at the Radisson- Research Triangle Park, RTP, NC.
