CIAA Announces 2005 Fall Coaches of the Year

Hampton, VA…The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s Executive Committee is proud to announce this year’s CIAA Fall Coaches of the Year.

Michael Lawson of North Carolina Central University was selected as this year’s Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year. This year celebrates the first year that the North Carolina Central Lady Eagles have won the honor of CIAA Women’s Cross Country Champion.

Ingrid Wicker-McCree joins Lawson as the Lady Eagles of North Carolina Central University celebrate coach McCree as Volleyball Coach of the Year. McCree leads the defending 2004 CIAA Champions into this year’s tournament as the first seed in the Western Division.

The Saint Augustine’s College Falcons are flying high as Michael Costa nabs Football Coach of the Year this season. The Falcons are the first CIAA team to be ranked #1 in the Southeast Region. SAC finished third in the West after two late-season conference losses, up from a fourth place finish last year.

Dianne Boyd, of the Shaw University Lady Bears can boast of leading some of the CIAA’s top bowlers. This year’s defending CIAA Bowling Champion finished second in the conference this season with a 22-8 record.

The 2005-2006 CIAA Coaches of the Year will be honored in May at the Annual CIAA Coach of the Year Luncheon in Raleigh, NC.
