Virginia Union ranks third in this week's NABC Poll
December 13, 2005
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The top five spots in this week's NABC Division II men's basketball rankings were unchanged, but there was plenty of shuffling past that spot.
The top five teams - Montevallo (8-0), Tarleton State (8-1), Virginia Union (4-1), Western Washington (5-1) and Seattle Pacific (5-0) - retained their spots, but losses by last week's sixth- and seventh-ranked teams have moved two teams from the Great Lakes Valley Conference into the next two positions. Saint Joseph's (8-0) moved up two spots to No. 6, while Southern Indiana (9-1) made a three-spot jump to No. 7. The remainder of the top ten includes No. 8 Florida Southern (8-0), No. 9 Winona State (8-1) and No. 10 Mount Olive (5-1), who is back among the top ten after falling to No. 16 last week.
West Virginia State (6-1), Holy Family (8-1) and Southwest Baptist (10-0) all made significant jumps to spots 11 through 13, respectively, while Central Missouri State (8-1), Catawba (10-1) and South Dakota (7-1), all of whom suffered their first losses last week, come in right behind that trio.
This week's schedule includes several games where ranked teams will play one another. The top game on the slate comes Saturday when No. 9 Winona State plays at No. 6 Saint Joseph's. No. 24 Presbyterian, who is making its first appearance in the rankings this week, is involved in two of those games as it will host another poll newcomer, No. 21 South Carolina Upstate, Wednesday before meeting top-ranked Montevallo Friday.
