Saint Augustine's College Second Annual Sapphire Scholarship Gala: A "Magical" Event

In commemoration of its 139th founding, Saint Augustine's College will celebrate with the Second Annual Sapphire Scholarship Gala on Saturday, January 28, 2006 at the North Raleigh Hilton. The Sapphire Gala is a fundraising event held to create sholarships for students of Saint Augustine’s College.
“We are looking forward to an exciting event this year. It provides an opportunity for friends of Saint Augustine’s College to give back with much needed scholarship support. We will proudly honor several individuals for the work they have and continue to do for great institutions all over the country, including Saint Augustine’s College,” says Dr. Dianne Boardley Suber, first female and 10th President of Saint Augustine’s College.
The Inaugural Saint Augustine’s College Heritage Award will be presented to NBA Legend and entrepenuer, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, who has shown tremendous commitment to minority higher education and minority communities. For 15 years, The Magic Johnson Foundation has provided scholarships, mentoring and internships, and support to organizations that address the educational, health, and social needs of children, young adults and inner-city communities.
The College will also present Father Richard M. Barry with the Inaugural Theodore Roosevelt Gibson Legacy Award. Father Barry will be honored for his unwavering commitment to Saint Augustine’s College and his community. Dr. Prezell Robinson, former president and President Emeritus for Saint Augustine’s College will be awarded the Presidential Salutation Award for his continued support and commitment to the College.
U.S. Senator Richard Burr, will serve as the Honorary Gala Chairperson while guests will be entertained by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes and The Delfonics. Other events scheduled for the celebration include a silent auction and dinner.
