JCSU Hosts CIAA-SAAC Action Academy

October 25, 2005

CHARLOTTE, NC – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) sponsored the 3rd annual Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Action Academy hosted on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University. Over 40 students from neighboring Livingstone College, Winston-Salem State University, Johnson C. Smith University and St. Paul’s College learned speaking and interview skills during the four hour event.

The students also had a chance to mingle with one and other and find out about issues related to their sports on their respective campuses. The speakers for the day were the husband and wife team of Susan Castorino and Randy Minkoff from nationally recognized “The Speaking Specialists”. The Speaking Specialists used an interactive format of question and answer sessions, mock interviews, and panel discussions to educate the young leaders in attendance.

A student-athlete advisory committee (SAAC) is a committee made up of student-athletes assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience. The SAAC also offers input on the rules, regulations and polices that affect student-athletes' lives on NCAA member institution campuses.

The next CIAA-SAAC Action Academy will be held at Bowie State University, tomorrow, October 26, 2005 in Bowie, MD.
