Allen Iverson Presents Inaugural Scholarship to Saint Augustine’s College

Raleigh, NC – NBA superstar Allen Iverson and Crossover
Promotions Incorporated presented
the first Allen Iverson Scholarship to Saint Augustine’s
College on Friday July 14, 2006 at the ESPN Zone in Washington, DC
during a press conference. The $50,000 award will be given as
two $5,000 scholarships on an annual basis to incoming freshmen
from Iverson’s hometown of Hampton, Virginia and surrounding
areas. Scholarships are awarded to students that exemplify
academic and athletic excellence. “Saint Augustine’s
College was selected for the scholarship because of its membership
in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), its
commitment to student athletes, and its reputation for maintaining
the integrity of athletics,” said Mr. Gary Moore, President
and CEO of Crossover Promotions.
The inaugural recipients of the award are Mr. James Scott, Jr.
and Terry Thomas, both of Bethel High School in Hampton,
Virginia. The graduating seniors will enroll at Saint
Augustine’s College for the fall 2006 semester.
The press conference kicked off The Allen Iverson Celebrity
Summer Classic featuring notables from music, sports and
entertainment.
Now in his eleventh NBA season, Allen Iverson is a seven-time NBA All-Star whose accomplishments include: League MVP, Rookie of the Year, two-time All-Star Game MVP, numerous scoring titles and serving as co-captain of the 2004 Olympic team. In addition to his on-court accomplishments, Mr. Iverson provides philanthropic support to youth and communities through Crossover Promotions and the Crossover Foundation.
