Virginia State University's Justin Buxton, a kicker on the Trojan football team, was killed early Monday when his car collided with a tractor trailer and then hit a truck in Sussex County, Virginia.
Buxton, 19, was named to the CIAA All-Rookie Team in 2006 after
hitting 16 of 17 extra points and three of six field goals as a
freshman. He was third on the team in scoring with 25 points.
Buxton was a native of Portsmouth, VA, and attended I.C. Norcom High School.
Buxton died when his Honda Accord ran off Route 460 in Sussex County.
He overcorrected and rear ended the tractor trailer and then hit a truck, according to Virginia State Police.
"Justin was a caring person and always bubbly," VSU Head Football Coach Andrew Faison said. "He was an excellent student and loved to compete.
He will be sorely missed."
