August 7, 2007
Raleigh, NC - The "New Reality" of Shaw University Athletics is
set to unveil a new athletics logo on Thursday, August 9th at 10:00
a.m. in Estey Hall Auditorium. The entire Shaw Family has
long awaited a brand that will define the outstanding achievements
and historic legacy of Shaw University Athletics.
"Motivated by a commitment to excellence, Shaw University is
moving forward on numerous levels. The release of our new
logo clearly signifies this," says Dr. Clarence G. Newsome,
President of Shaw University. "Having a brand that uniquely
identifies our institution positions us to have a trademark that
will be recognized around the globe, and with our partnerships in
China, we are truly global. Our new logo is a symbol of progress,
strength, fortitude, and excellent achievement. This is a proud day
for Shaw University."
Dr. Newsome will be on hand to unveil the new logo along with
Martel Perry, Executive Vice President, Al Carter, Director of
Athletics, coaches, staff, students and alumni.
The new athletics visual identity system, developed by the Triangle
marketing firm vitalink®, features a primary logo, secondary
mark and sports-specific logo type treatments. The new logo will be
featured proudly on everything from stadium banners and new
uniforms to T-Shirts and other merchandising.
"A logo means so much more to students and alumni," says Jeanne
Frazer, President of vitalink®. "For many the brand
identity or logo is a source of pride and represents the University
experience. We are proud to be involved in the process of creating
a "New Reality" for Shaw with this breakthrough brand mark."
"Working with vitalink® to capture the essence and spirit of
Shaw University Athletics has been an exciting and rewarding
exercise. This logo is symbolic and a very significant part
of the branding and direction of Athletics that has evolved into "A
New Reality". This is the first step that Shaw University
Athletics is taking to become a world-class program. We have
already signed a Memorandum of Understanding this summer for our
athletics sports programs to have friendly competition with our
partnerships in China. We are very excited about this
unveiling," stated Martel Perry.
