Former CIAA official Jesse Corry passes

Former CIAA referee Jesse Corry has died. He passed away at his
residence on July 9, 2008 at the age of 73.
He coached and refereed basketball and football for more than 36
years at the high school and collegiate level.
Educated in the public schools of Rowan County, North Carolina,
Corry graduated from Livingstone College and later earned a
Master's degree in couseling from N.C. Central University.
Following his graduation, Corry served as a counselor in the
public schools of Rowan County and later became personnel manager
of Fieldcrest Mills (North Carolina Finishing Co.) until his
retirement in 1999.
The Rev. Corry was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. and
received a humanitarian award from the Salisbury Rowan Human
Relations Council.
He was also campaign manager for Phase II of Livingstone College's
Capital Campaign and was instrumental in fundraising for the
erection of the American Red Cross building in Salisbury.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, July 14, at
First Baptist Church, Winston-Salem, with Dr. Daryl Aaron, pastor,
officiating, and Dr. Glenn Pettiford, eulogist. Burial will be in
Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury. Hairston Funeral Home Inc. is
