December 10, 2008
Johnson C. Smith University Sports Information Director Kristene Kelly has resigned effective January 3, 2009.
Kelly, a native of St. Croix, US Virgin Islands, has worked with
the university since July 2002 covering all 15 sports at JCSU. She
also has served in several other university capacities including,
but not limited to, Freshman Academy case manager, Health and Human
Performance department instructor, and co-chair of the 2007 NCAA
Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
She has served as Vice President of the CIAA Sports Information Directors Association and was elected Secretary-Treasurer of the Black College Sports Information Directors Association at their annual convention in Tampa last summer.
She established the "Kristene Kelly Annual Scholarship" in the 2007-2008 academic year. The scholarship provides much needed assistance to female student-athletes. Kelly has won several awards and is currently a doctoral student at The United States Sports Academy.
The university will miss her enthusiasm and hard work. A search for a new Sports Information Director will start immediately.
