Raleigh, NC – (October 3, 2008) Political fever is in the
air and has firmly landed on the campus of Shaw University. Because
of the dynamics of economic and world issues, students on campus
are paying attention and have decided that these issues warrant
their votes and voices. Student-athletes, Student Government
Association members and other student leaders all rallied outside
of the Willie E. Gary Student Union in a successful voter
registration drive to ensure that the opportunity to impact the
future of this nation did not miss the students at Shaw.
Coach Cleo Hill, Jr., Head Men’s Basketball Coach, was on
hand to witness members of the men’s basketball team register
and take part in the process. He stated, “This is an
extremely important part of our history. I am excited that all of
these students on campus have decided to be a part of affecting the
change that is going to take place in our country.”
K-97.5 FM manned a booth and gave away CD’s and information
on various issues that directly affects the lives of this
generation. Information is power and they are paying attention.
Numerous students stopped in between classes to complete the
required documentation to ensure that their voices and votes are
counted in this important and historic election.
Student Affairs is to be commended in this initiative that has
opened the political doors to many that may otherwise have missed
out on this election. The excellence continues and Shaw University
continues to impact the lives of its students, communities and the
world-at-large.
