Falcons Name Head Baseball Coach and Head Men’s
Golf Coach

RALEIGH, N.C. – Saint Augustine’s College named its
baseball coach and men’s golf coach for the 2009-10 season.
Charles Whitaker takes over as new head baseball coach, and Julius
Wells joins the athletic staff as men’s golf coach.

Whitaker was the assistant baseball coach at Saint
Augustine’s College the past two seasons. The Falcons were
CIAA regular-season champions in 2009, and CIAA tournament
runner-ups in 2008 and 2009 during his tenure as assistant coach.
In 2009, the Falcons posted their first winning record since 2000
and won the most games (26) since 1990. Whitaker graduated from
Saint Augustine’s College in 2005 with a human performance
and wellness degree.
Whitaker played baseball collegiately at Saint Augustine’s
College from 2003 to 2006. He was named CIAA rookie of the year in
2003, and was named to the All-CIAA squad in 2004 and 2005.
Whitaker was a utility player, first baseman, center fielder, and
catcher for the Falcons. He was a member of the 2003 team, which
finished as a runner-up in the CIAA Baseball Championships.
Wells takes the helm as head coach after playing on the
Falcons’ men’s golf team from 2005 to 2009. One of the
Falcons’ top golfers during his playing days, Wells placed
among the top 15 golfers two consecutive years at the CIAA Golf
Championships. He made a hole-in-one at the Navy Fall Invitational
Tournament, which was held Sept. 12-13, 2008. Wells is a 2009 Saint
Augustine’s College graduate with a human performance and
wellness degree.
