VSU'S DUNN & RICHARDSON ATTEND SAAC LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

Virginia State University's Dominique Dunn and William Richardson were selected to attend the NCAA Leadership Academy, held September 27-29 in Boston, Ma.

Dunn is a senior on the Lady Trojans women's basketball team while Richardson is a senior on the VSU men's tennis team.

The Mid-Atlantic and New England Regions will host the 2009 Division II Leadership Academy, September 25-27. The conference will take place at the Hilton Boston Logan Airport in Boston, Massachusetts. By attending the conference, NCAA student-athletes, coaches and administrators will enhance their leadership skills and formulate a strategy to positively affect their campus, conference and communities in the future. Attendees participate in numerous educational sessions which impact the development and growth of student-athletes on campus or within their conference. Sessions offered at the conference will allow participants a greater understanding of the NCAA, the Division II governance and legislation process, and the Division II National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Other issues like; sportsmanship, diversity, nutrition, mental health, game environment will allow participants to explore how to play an active role, as an agent of change, in reference to these critical topics. Using the knowledge gained at the conference, participants will set out to create positive and lasting change throughout the NCAA structure, their communities and the world.

Dunn is a senior from Emporia, Va., while Richardson is a senior from Chicago, Il.

Dunn and Richardson represented VSU and the CIAA at the Academy. They were accompanied by assistant women's basketball coach Chiante Wester.

Five CIAA schools were represented at the Academy. Elizabeth City State University was represented by George Harris, Tiffany Johnson and Tim Orr. Fayetteville State University was represented by Jamel Carpenter, Doniecia Ebron and Peggy Green. Chowan University was represented by Patricia Price, Thomas Byrd and Coach Patrick Mashuda. Livingstone College was represented by Christina Jones, Joseph Taylor and Darren J. Hamilton.
