Livingstone's Winnie Chepchumba Named CIAA Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year

RALEIGH, NC – Livingstone cross country, track and field
and tennis player Winnie Chepchumba was named the 2010 CIAA Female
Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as announced by the conference office
Tuesday.
Chepchumba, a rising senior from Kasabet, Kenya received the honor
during the 2010 CIAA Spring Meetings.
Chepchumba was awarded this honor based on her academic
achievement, athletic achievement, and community service.
Chepchumba was an All-CIAA performer in cross country in the fall
and in indoor track during the winter. She qualified for the
NCAA Regionals in cross country and was also third in the CIAA in
the mile run in indoor track.
Off the playing surface and inside the classroom, Chepchumba has
maintained a 4.0 grade point average in her pursuit of an
accounting degree.
In addition to her athletic and academic achievements, Chepchumba
also volunteers her time in the Salisbury community.
Chepchumba participated in Rowan County YMCA’s Day of Caring
and also participated in building a house with Habitat for
Humanity.
Chepchumba was also selected by the NCAA to participate in the
Career in Sports Forum hosted in Indianapolis, Indiana this past
week based on her athletic and academic achievements. She was
the only person selected for the forum from the CIAA.
