Saint Augustine’s Dial, Kelly Take Advantage of NCAA Programs
June 12, 2010
Assistant football coach Kevin Dial and associate athletic director
Kristene Kelly of Saint Augustine’s College are using the
offseason to enhance their skills through NCAA programs.
Dial recently traveled to Indianapolis, Ind., where he was one of
25 candidates to attend the NCAA Football Coaches Academy, a
three-day workshop designed to increase diversity across the
college football landscape. Dial says the academy enhanced his
coaching skills in ways he never imagined.

“As a football coach, we have a
tendency to think about X’s and O’s,” Dial said.
“At the academy, we learned so much more such as networking
with other coaches, dealing with the media and working with
professors. This type of knowledge will help me as a
coach.”
Dial, who enters his fifth season as Falcons’ wide receivers
coach, is the latest coach on the Falcons’ staff to attend
the academy. The others who have participated in the past are
assistant coaches Willie Bennett, Jermaine Gales and Matthew
Montgomery.
Kelly will be in Peachtree City, Ga., for the NCAA/NACWAA Institute
for Administrative Advancement on June 11-15. NACWAA, which stands
for National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics
Administrators, is an organization whose mission is to enhance and
promote opportunities for women in intercollegiate athletics
administration.
The organization features curriculum that prepares participants to
work with the issues currently facing intercollegiate athletics
administrators, such as policy implementation, professional
development, leadership skills and financial planning. Kelly, who
is attending for the first time, is a 2007 graduate of the
NCAA’s Leadership Institute for Ethnic Minority Females.
“I am truly excited about attending the NCAA/NACWAA
Leadership Institute for Administrative Advancement,” Kelly
said. “I believe it will be instrumental in helping me move
up the ladder in athletics administration.”
Kelly has been associate athletic director at Saint
Augustine’s College since January 2009. Previously, she was
sports information director at Johnson C. Smith University for six
and one-half years. During her illustrious career at Johnson C.
Smith, Kelly was named CIAA sports information director of the year
by her peers in 2005.
