St. Augustine's Duffus named Division II CCA Regional Scholar Awardee

August 31, 2010

Track and field standout Orolando Duffus (Sr./St. Catherine, Jamaica) of Saint Augustine’s College is one of eight regional winners vying for the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award.

The award, sponsored by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association, provides the opportunity for Division II to highlight the extraordinary academic and athletic achievements of its student-athletes. The commissioners from the regions that comprise the Division II basketball alignment selected the regional winners. To be nominated for consideration, a student-athlete must have attained a 3.0 career cumulative grade point average and possess outstanding athletic credentials.

Duffus, who has a 3.95 cumulative GPA, is an indoor and outdoor All-American in the triple jump and long jump. He was named first-team academic All-American and all-region by ESPN The Magazine, and was named 2010 CIAA male scholar-athlete of the year. Duffus also made the national All-Academic men’s track and field/cross country team by U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Duffus is also a member of the 2010 CIAA Commissioner’s All-Academic first team. A business administration major, Duffus won the Wiley M. Davis Award at Saint Augustine’s College for most outstanding international student-athlete, and he has the school’s highest GPA in men’s indoor track, men’s outdoor track and men’s cross country.

The male and female Division II Scholar-Athlete of the Year will be selected from 16 regional winners (eight men and eight women). The national award winners will be announced in September.
