Chowan Athletics to Induct Five into 2010 Hall of Fame Class

MURFREESBORO - The Chowan University department of athletics will
induct it's Hall of Fame class on Saturday evening in a special
ceremony comemmorating the 25th annual event. This Year's "Jim
Garrison" Hall of Fame class features some of the best and
brightest Chowan student-athletes from the junior college era. The
class will be recognized at halftime of the football game against
Bowie State on Saturday afternoon and later that evening be
inducted officially into the Hall of Fame at a banquet and
ceremony.
This year's class features local business owner and former Chowan football standout, Stan Dixon. Dixon played football for two seasons during the mid 70's under legendary coach, Jim Garrison. He has stayed close to Chowan and now serving a term on the CU Board of Trustees. Dixon is the President of the Board of Trustees Athletics Committee and has also been on the CU Board of Visitors.
Alyson Barnes Faulconer was a standout volleyball player under Coach Janet Collins. Following a solid two year career at Chowan in the early 80's, Alyson went on to East Carolina University to continue her education and playing career. She currently serves as Senior Vice President of 'the little bank, Inc.' in Greenville and has over 20 years of experience in the commerical banking industry.
Danny Morgan attended Chowan in the late 60's and was a standout golfer on the men's golf team. The Franklin, Virginia native respresnted Chowan at the NJCAA National Golf Championships both years he was on the team. He furthered his education and playing careers at Virginia Wesleyan College and currently serves as the Head Golf Professional at Cypress Cove Country Club in his hometown of Franklin.
Bobby Ray Smith is the only Chowan men's basketball player to ever play in the storied Big East Conference. After leading Chowan to a 48-15 record over his two years under nationally known coach, Bob Burke, he went on to further his playing career and education at Boston College. From the point guard position at Chowan he tallied 607 career points and 276 career assists. He excelled on the court and in the classroom while at BC and for the last 20 years has been employed with the Office of Children and Family Services in the state of New York.
Martin Williams played football under Garrison for two seasons in the late 80's where he excelled on his field of play and in the classroom. Williams was an All-American defensive lineman at Chowan and in his sophomore season was named the Conference Player of the Year. He earned a scholarship to the University of Tennessee where he was an All-SEC selection. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from UT and signed with the Atlanta Falcons after graduation. In 1992 he was hired by the Charleston, SC School system where he has been employed ever since.
