The CIAA Announces 15 Finalists for the 2011 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award – CIAA Division
Winners to be Announced during the CIAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament in February
HAMPTON, Va. – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) announces the finalist for the third annual CIAA Division of the highly recognized Lowe’s Senior CLAA Award program. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School® , the award program focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages those leaders to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact on their circle of influence.
“The CIAA is excited to be a part of such an outstanding program that recognizes our student-athletes,” said Leon Kerry, CIAA Commissioner. “It’s important to highlight their contributions in the community and the leadership skills they display in the classroom and on the court.”
This will mark the third year that the award has recognized outstanding senior basketball student-athletes within the CIAA.
The 2010-11 women’s finalists are: Brittney Jackson (Bowie State University), Courtney Scott (Elizabeth City State University),Shontanette Shaw (Johnson C. Smith University), DeJuana Mosley (Lincoln University - PA), Cassaundra Rhodes (Livingstone College), Allison Sikes (Saint Augustine’s College), Rhon’Neisha Taylor (Virginia State University), and Dashia Chandler (Virginia Union University).
The 2010-11 men’s finalists are: Eric Vann (Bowie State University), Ryan Carter (Johnson C. Smith University), Eugene Smith (Lincoln University - PA), Shaun Washum (Saint Augustine’s College), Dwight Bell (Shaw University), Christopher Washington (Virginia State University), and Braxton Byerson (Virginia Union University).
“Lowe’s is proud of our affiliation with the CIAA conference and its member schools,” said Tom Lamb, Lowe’s senior vice president for marketing. “We look forward once again to recognizing two of the conference’s great student-athletes during the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments.”
The male and female winner will be determined through a voting process that runs concurrent with the basketball season and is divided into three categories: 1) on-line fan voting, 2) coaches, and 3) media. Each category accounts for one-third of the total vote.
Lowe’s, a sponsor of the CIAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament, will recognize the men’s and women’s basketball winners onLowe’s Day at the CIAA on Thursday, March 3, 2011, between the 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. games.
