HSRN Basketball National Player of the Week Fan Poll

Hartly, DE – The 2010-11 basketball conference schedule
has tipped-off and the Heritage Sports Radio Network (HSRN)
National Player of the Week fan poll voting has started. Each
week, HSRN will announce a men and women national player of the
week from both Division I and Division II action.
The top performance each week will be selected and the HBCU fans
across the country will get a chance to cast their vote for who
they think had the best game. The Fan Poll is designed to get
fans involved with the excitement of the HBCU college basketball
action. Fans are asked to log on to HSRN.com and cast their
vote for the top performance. Fans can vote on the poll this
evening (Tues. 18) thru Fri. (Jan. 21) until 12 am ET. Voting
this week is for games played from January 10th thru January 15,
2011.
The CIAA nominees for this week are:
Div. II Men
Denzel Mooney – Lincoln (PA) – G –
6’3, 195 – JR/Baltimore, MD
Mooney was named CIAA Newcomer of the week averaging 32 points per
game. He had a career-high 35 points as Lincoln faced Fayetteville
State on the road. A night earlier against Johnson C. Smith, he
scored 29 points behind a career-high-tying four three-pointers. He
now has six straight games with at least 24 points. He also went
9-of-9 from the free-throw line against the Golden Bulls. For the
week, he went 18 of 21 from the charity stripe.
Div. II Women
Allison Sikes – St. Augustine’s – G
– 5’10 – SR/Richmond, VA
Sikes was nominated after having possibly her best week in an
illustrious four-year career. She averaged 23.5 points, nine
rebounds, six steals and three assists in two games last week
including her first career college triple-double in an 82-48 win
over Virginia Union (24 points, 12 rebounds, 10 steals). She also
had 23 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals in a 67-55
win over Bowie State. It was the Lady Falcons’ first win at
Bowie State since 2000, a span of seven straight losses.
On Monday, Sikes was named CIAA women’s basketball player of
the week. She currently ranks in the CIAA’s top 10 in scoring
(15.1), field goal percentage (47.5), assists (3.2), steals (2.7),
and assist/turnover ratio.
