VUU’s Byerson & SAC's Sikes win National Player of the Week Honors

Hartly, DE – VA Union University’s Braxton Byerson and St. Augustine’s College's Allison Sikes are the winners of the HSRN Players of the Week basketball fan poll.  They were nominated for their performances in games played from February 13th thru February 19th, 2011.  Each week during the season, HSRN’s staff will select the top performances from all HBCU action and give the fans across the country a chance to vote for the Player of the Week.

HSRN developed the fan poll to get all HBCU alumni, students and fans involved with the national process and to also give everyone a chance to consistently keep up with the individual performances around the country.  This web site and their broadcasts are designed to keep fans abreast of all action around HBCU athletic competition. 

Div. II Men

Braxton Byerson – VA Union – G/F – 6’3, 210 – SR/Colonial Heights, VA

Byerson finished the week averaging 27 points and led the Panthers to a 3-0 week.  In the 69-59 win over Chowan he finished with 26 points, seven rebounds, one assist and three steals.  In their 79-73 win over Livingston, he had 30 points, six rebounds and seven steals and in the 62-48 win over Lincoln he finished with 25 points, four rebounds, three assists and six steals.

Div. II Women

Allison Sikes – St. Augustine’s – F – 5’10 – SR/Richmond, VA

Sikes led the Falcons to a 2-0 week averaging a double-double, 23 points and 11.5 rebounds.  In their 67-48 win over Fayetteville St. she had 24 points, eight rebounds, three assists and 11 steals.  In the 83-73 win over Livingstone, she finished with 22 points, 15 rebounds, two assists, one block and four steals.
