Saint Augustine’s Kelly Selected For NCAA DII/ADA Mentoring Program
March 23, 2011
RALEIGH, N.C. - Saint Augustine’s College Associate Athletic
Director and Senior Woman Administrator Kristene Kelly has been
selected to participate in The NCAA & Division II Athletic
Directors Association’s Women & Minorities Mentoring
Program titled “Mentoring Tomorrow’s
Leaders.”
The purpose of the program is to match 10 outstanding Division
II athletics administrators with 10 committed athletics directors
in hopes of building a foundation that will encourage the
participants to pursue a long-range career in athletics
administration – ideally in Division II.
“I am very excited about the opportunity to participate in
such a worthwhile program,” Kelly said. “As a former
Division II student-athlete, I truly believe that this is the best
level of collegiate play. I stand for what Division II prides
itself on - Life in the Balance.”
The mentoring program will provide an opportunity for such
individuals as it seeks to round out their skills over the course
of one year. Both mentees and mentors were required to apply for
the program, with the selections made by representatives of the
NCAA membership, the Division II Athletic Directors Association
(ADA) and Double LL Consulting, which is supporting the
initiative.
Kelly, a native of St. Croix, US Virgin Islands, graduated from Johnson C. Smith University with two degrees – one in physical education with a concentration in sport management and the other in communication arts with a concentration in public relations.
She received her master’s degree in human performance and
sport studies from The University of Tennessee.
Kelly is currently ABD (All But Dissertation) at the United States
Sports Academy where her dissertation will focus on Sports
Information Director Role Perceptions. In her role as Associate
AD/SWA at Saint Augustine’s College, Kelly serves as the
sport administrator for five sports and has departmental oversight
for sports information and compliance. She is also the
Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) co-advisor and is serving
the second of a four-year term as a member of the NCAA Division II
Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Committee. )
