CIAA SELECTS 2011 MALE AND FEMALE SCHOLAR-ATHLETES OF THE YEAR

Hampton, VA - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association has announced the recipients of the Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award, Allison Sikes of St. Augustine’s College and Justin Parker of Virginia State University. This honor, in its tenth year, rewards student-athletes who have excelled in the classroom and in the athletic arena.
 
Allison Sykes Allison Sikes is a senior, Psychology major from Richmond, VA. Sikes is a standout Women’s Basketball student-athlete for the Lady Falcons; having led her team in scoring- averaging 17.0 points per game; 2nd in the CIAA. She averaged 7.2 rebounds per game and led the CIAA in steals per game (3.1). Sikes was also 3rd in three-point field goal percentage (.342) and 10th in rebounds (7.2 rpg). Her biggest highlight was a triple-double consisting of 24 points, 12 rebounds and 10 steals against Virginia Union on Jan. 13. Sikes boasts a .361 GPA.
 
Sikes’ Accomplishments for the Year:

  •  NCCSIA College Division All State First Team, 2011
  •  HSRN National Player of the Year
  •  SAC Highest GPA Award
  •  SAC “I Chose Division II Presidential Award” Winner (Student-Athlete of the Year)
  •  HSRN National Player of the Week (two times), 2011
  •  CIAA Player of the Week (four times), 2011
  •  CIAA All-Tournament Team, 2011
  •  CIAA Player of the Year, 2011
  •  CIAA All-Conference Team

 
Justin Parker Justin Parker a senior Health, Physical Education and Recreation major for the Trojans’ Football and Golf teams, led the CIAA’s Field Goal category for the 2010 season; finished 8 for 8 (100pct) in field goals with a long of 40 yards; ranked 2nd in PAT kicking, 32-34 at 94pct- a while maintaining a 3.769 GPA. Parker also serves his community, having volunteered for the Rudy Johnson Foundation, Habitat for Humanity and participated in a breast cancer walk.
 
Parker’s Accomplishments for the Year:

Both Sikes and Parker will be formally recognized at the 2011 CIAA Spring Awards Luncheon on May 24th in Newport News, VA.
