June 9, 2010

RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw University's Kimberly Miller is one of ten women/minorities to be selected to participate in the NCAA & Division II Athletic Directors Association's Women & Minorities Mentoring Program titled "Mentoring Tomorrow's Leaders."   She is also one of 50 people nationwide to be selected for the NCAA’s Leadership Institute.Kimberly Miller

The purpose of the mentoring program is to match 10 outstanding Division II athletics administrators with 10 committed athletics directors in hopes of building a foundation that will encourage the participants to pursue a long-range career in athletics administration - ideally in Division II. The mentoring program will provide an opportunity for such individuals as it seeks to round out their skills over the course of one year.

The Leadership Institute Weeklong assists 50 minority men and women in strategically mapping and planning their careers through the exploration of the intercollegiate athletics community.   The format will allow participants to diversify their network, become exposed to key stakeholders within college administration and receive an in-depth view of the opportunities to serve within the NCAA governance structure as they advance in their careers.

"I am excited about the opportunity and look forward to both programs," Miller said. "The athletic director that I will be working with will help me advance my career administratively and eventually I can become a Division II athletic director".

Miller is the Assistant Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator at Shaw. She has also been the head coach of the women's softball team for the past four seasons. Miller received her bachelor's degree in sports management at Winston-Salem State, and her master's degree in sports studies at High Point.
