The Woman of the Year Award honors female student-athletes who
have distinguished themselves throughout their college careers in
academic achievement, athletic excellence, community service and
leadership. To be eligible for the award, a female student-athlete
must have completed intercollegiate eligibility in her primary
sport by the end of the 2011 spring season, graduated no later than
the end of the summer 2011 term and achieved a minimum cumulative
grade-point average of 2.5.
The nomination is the latest honor for Sikes, the 2010-11 CIAA
women's basketball player of the year. In May, Sikes was named CIAA
Woman of the Year and CIAA Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Sikes, a three-time All-CIAA selection, won numerous honors during
an illustrious four-year career including the Heritage Sports Radio
Network Division II black college women's basketball player of the
year. A two-time CoSIDA All-District academic team member, Sikes
made the CIAA Commissioner's All-Academic team three consecutive
years. She helped the Lady Falcons win a division title in 2010 and
claim the CIAA team highest grade point average award in women's
basketball in 2010 and 2011. She graduated magna cum laude from
Saint Augustine's College with a 3.61 cumulative GPA in May.
Ten nominees from each of the three divisions (I, II and III) will
be announced in late August. The selection committee, composed of
representatives from NCAA member schools and athletic conferences,
will then choose three finalists from each division in early
September.
The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics will select the national
winner from the top nine finalists overall. The 2011 NCAA Woman of
the Year will be announced during the Woman of the Year dinner in
Indianapolis on Oct. 16.
