Saint Augustine's College Receives Proclamation From Raleigh City Council
RALEIGH, N.C. – The Raleigh City Council honored Saint
Augustine’s College on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, for its
athletic and academic successes this season at the Raleigh
Municipal Building.
The college received a proclamation for the achievements of its
men’s track and field, women’s volleyball and
women’s basketball teams. The men’s track and field
team won its 14th straight CIAA indoor title, and the squad is
currently first in the NCAA Division II outdoor rankings.
The women’s volleyball team won its first CIAA crown since
2003 and advanced to the NCAA Division II playoffs for the first
time in eight years. Both track and field and volleyball squads in
addition to the women’s basketball team won the CIAA highest
team grade point average award in their respective sports, with the
women’s basketball team taking the honor for the third
straight year.
Athletic director and legendary track and field coach George
Williams spoke on behalf of Saint Augustine’s College. Others
who represented the college were volleyball head coach Nikki Bynum
and student-athletes Keyona Bryant (basketball), Morgan Mitchell
(basketball), Victoria Davis (basketball/volleyball), Kathryn
Tokarski (volleyball/softball) and Brittany Hicks (volleyball).
