WSSU Athletics Announces Hiring Of Carl Smalls As Associate AD For Marketing & Fundraising
WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem State University
Department of Athletics is proud to announce to hiring of Carl
Smalls, as the new Associate director of Athletics for Marketing
and Fundraising. His primary responsibility is increasing the
visibility of Winston-Salem State University's athletic programs
through the management of all athletic marketing and event
management, fund development and corporate sponsorships.
Smalls brings with him 20 years experience as a business executive
in sports, marketing, fund development, relationship management,
financial services, consulting, strategic planning, corporate
finance, higher education and government relations.
He previously was president and CEO of Morgan Smalls Sports
Consultants, LLC, a professional collegiate sports marketing firm
that specializes in creating, marketing and managing revenue
enhancement programs around sports properties of HBCUs, other small
schools and Mid-Major conferences.
He has also held positions at Lake Superior State University in
Sault Ste. Marie, MI, where he served as a consultant to the School
of Business (2007-09), was an associate professor and also served
as Department Chair. Smalls also has worked at Wilmoco
Capital Management, where he served as CEO from 1997-2006 and
senior financial analyst from 1988-1990. He also served as a market
analyst for Volkswagen of America.
Smalls is a 1983 graduate of North Carolina A&T State
University, and also earned a Master's Degree in Business
Administration in Finance and Marketing from Atlanta University's
Graduate School of Business (1988). He is also a graduate of
the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University
(1999).
