March 20, 2010
DURHAM, NC – Fayetteville State bowling coach Bobby Henderson was named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Coach of the Year; announced by the conference on Saturday at the CIAA Bowling Championships. This season, Henderson led the Broncos to a 60-2 CIAA record and their seventh-straight Western Division Title. Henderson previously won the award during FSU’s 2007 CIAA Championship season. Since 2004, Henderson has led the Broncos to more than 74 wins per season.
At the Western Division Round-Up in March, the Broncos became the
first team in CIAA history to average 1,000 or more pins per match
for the weekend in team play (1000.2). Henderson’s squad also
became the first team to average 900 or more in team scores for an
entire season.
As a team, the Broncos bowled 200 or more 52 times with CIAA Player of the Year Akira Turner's 266 at the CIAA Western Division Round-Up in March - the highest individual game of the year.
Henderson helped four players – Turner, Jessica Styers, Jessica Collins and Clarrissee Bible – earn All-CIAA honors. Under his leadership, 25 FSU bowlers have been named to the All-CIAA team and 10 were on the CIAA Academic Honor Roll. The Broncos participated in the 2004-05 NCAA Elite Eight.
