Five CIAA Student-Athlete's selected to NCBWA All Regional Team

Charlotte, NC -  On Wednesday, May 17, 2017, the National College Baseball Writers Association released the 2017 All Region Team.  Five CIAA Baseball Players have been named to the NCBWA All Atlantic Region Team.  Senior catcher David Markins, and junior outfielder Jahleel Sewer of Virginia State University have both earned All Atlantic Region 2nd team.  Winston-Salem State University senior pitcher Seth Reeves was named to the 1st team, and Rams senior second baseman Ivan Acuna, and sophomore outfielder Randy Norris both earned spots on the All Atlantic Region 2nd team. 



Markins capped off his senior year with the Trojans in an impressive fashion. A four-year starter for the Trojans, David was named to the 1st All Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) team for his performance this season. David also ranked in the top five of every offensive category in the CIAA.  He ranked  2nd in average, 2nd in RBIs, 3rd in home runs, 5th in hits with 65 and 2nd in doubles with 16. He finished the year batting .385, had nine home runs, 52 RBIs, and scored 37 runs.



Sewer, who is a transfer student excelled in the outfield his first season for the Trojans.  Jahleel batted .365 for the  season with 10 home runs, 38 RBIs, 11 stolen bases, and 45 runs scored. As a result of those numbers, Jahleel  was selected to the 2nd All CIAA team.  His numbers also ranked him in the top five in most offensive categories in  the CIAA.  Jahleel was 2nd in home runs, 2nd in on base percentage at .475, 1st in slugging percentage at .694,  4th in runs, and 5th in average.




Reeves started the season with the Rams on a winning note.  Three-time CIAA pitcher of the week, and member of  the All-CIAA First team, Seth led the CIAA and the Rams with a 1.45 ERA, and tied for the league leads in wins with nine.  Reeves was fourth in the CIAA strikeouts, with 55.  Reeves pitched 68.1 innings on the season and opponents hit just .191 when he was on the mound.   






CIAA Baseball Player of the Year, Ivan Acuna, a senior infielder from Caracas, Venezuela, hit .378 for WSSU, and led the team in home runs (10), rbi's (49) and doubles (17).  Acuna finished the regular season fourth in batting average and tied for first in rbi's.  Named to the All-CIAA Team First team, Acuna appeared in 52 games overall for the season, and helped contribute to the Rams 35-17 overall record.    





In his second season competing with the Rams, Randy Norris hit .383, which was good for third in the CIAA.   Norris led the CIAA and finished third in the NCAA in stolen bases with 10.  Norris also finished 2nd in triple, and   third in doubles and home runs.  This is Norris' 2nd time making All-CIAA and he was a second team member as a freshman. 



Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. The All Atlantic Region 1st and 2nd Teams are made up of players from the CIAA, Mountain East, and PSAC Conferences. Below are the players selected for the All Atlantic Region Teams.
