CIAA Statement regarding North Carolina Central University Signal Device Investigation
November 1, 2005
Hampton, VA - The CIAA has received a report of an internal
investigation by North Carolina Central University regarding
alleged use of a prohibited signal device. NCAA Football Rules
prohibit utilization of an electronic signal device by any player
or coach. In the report, Chancellor James H. Ammons stated that
after completing their investigation the university has absolved
itself of any wrongdoing.
The correspondence sent to the conference office denies violating
any NCAA regulation regarding prohibited signal devices. In the
letter, Chancellor Ammons stated that a thorough investigation was
conducted by Athletics Director Bill Hayes and no evidence was
found to support any wrongdoing.
"The conference office has accepted the report of North Carolina
Central's investigation into these particular allegations," said
Leon G. Kerry, CIAA Commissioner. "We will forward this information
on to our Board of Directors for their review. If necessary, we
will make another statement regarding this matter," added Kerry.
"However, this will not affect North Carolina Central's status in
Saturday's Championship Game."
