CIAA CHAMPIONSHIP GAME - SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 11 - 1:00 P.M.

The 2006 edition of the CIAA Championship Game is the finest pairing of teams since the game was resurrected in 2000. When Elizabeth City State (9-1, 7-0) travels to Durham to face North Carolina Central (10-0, 7-0) in the Championship Game, the game will mark a number of firsts. Here’s a listing of the following Championship Game firsts:

1. Two teams which are undefeated in conference play have never played in the Championship Game: (Both ECSU and NCCU finished 7-0 in the CIAA);

2. Two teams ranked in the Top 20 of the AFCA poll have never played in the Championship Game: (NCCU is #4 and ECSU is #19);

3. Two teams which did not meet in the regular season;

4. Two teams which are ranked in the Top 5 of the NCAA Southeast Region Poll: (NCCU is ranked #3 and ECSU is ranked #4);

5. Two teams which are ranked in the Top 5 of the Sheridan Poll: (NCCU is #1 and ECSU is #5);

6. Two teams which have only one loss collectively: (NCCU 10-0, ECSU 9-1);

7. Features the top-ranked team in the Sheridan Poll (NCCU).
