Panthers and Vikings Survive To Set Up Eastern Title Showdown
Virginia Union 9, Bowie State 7
In Bowie, Maryland, Elihu Smith rushed for 155 yards as Virginia Union (7-2, 5-1 CIAA) won a 9-7 defensive struggle over Bowie State to stay in the hunt for the Eastern Division title. Lamar Little connected with Michael Hampton on a 34-yard touchdown pass as Virginia Union took a 6-0 first quarter lead. Hugo Flores-Diaz would get the Panthers last points of the day on a 43-yard field goal in the second quarter as the Panthers took a 9-0 lead at the half. Bowie State, who got a career-high 239 yards rushing from Nathaniel Queen, would get their only score of the game with 39 seconds left in the third quarter when Peter Mensah plunged in from 1 yard out to cut the lead to 9-7. In the fourth quarter, Bowie State blocked a 42-yard field goal attempt by Flores-Diaz giving them the ball back at their own 32-yard line. The Bulldogs would put together a 10-play, 60-yard drive, mainly on the running of Queen, but would come away empty handed when kicker John Riley’s 33-yard field attempt was unsuccessful, allowing the Panthers to get the ball back and run out the clock. Up next for the Panthers, a visit to 22nd ranked Elizabeth City State with the Eastern Division title at stake.
Elizabeth City State 7 Saint Paul’s 3
In Lawenceville, after being held scoreless and trailing 3-0 at the half, 22nd ranked Elizabeth City State got a 4-yard touchdown run from Brandon Flowers in the third quarter then held on for a 7-3 win over Saint Paul’s to improve to 8-1 and 6-0 in the CIAA and set up a showdown against Virginia Union next Saturday for the Eastern Division title and a berth in the CIAA Championship game.

Offensive Lineman
Robert Duncan – North Carolina Central, C, 6’0”,
268, SR, Winston-Salem, NC
Duncan was the top blocker as the Eagles amassed 304 yards of total
offense and scored 37 points in Saturday’s victory over
Livingstone College.
Receiver
Wayne Blackwell – North Carolina Central, WR,
6’2”, 203, SO, Reidsville, NC
Blackwell was all over the field as he hauled in touchdown
receptions for 18, 40 and 34 yards in the Eagles’ 37-15 win
over Livingstone. He finished the game with four catches for
career-highs 115 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Offensive Back
Stadford Brown – North Carolina Central, QB,
6’1”, 196, FR, Washington, DC
Brown continues to lead the Eagles’ passing game as he
completed 12-of-21 receptions for 186 yards and three touchdowns in
Saturday’s victory against the Blue Bears of Livingstone
College. He also carried the ball 4 times for 8 yards and a
touchdown.
Defensive Lineman
Kevin Jones – Saint Augustine’s, MLB,
6’3”, 210, SO, South Hill, VA
In the Falcons’ 15-3 victory over Fayetteville State, Jones
recorded a game-high 16 total tackles (9 solo, 7 assisted)
including one tackle for a loss of 2 yards and had one pass
break-up to help lead Saint Augustine’s to a win in
Saturday’s action on the gridiron.
Defensive Back
Craig Amos – North Carolina Central, CB, 5’10”,
180, JR, Winston-Salem, NC
Amos disrupted the Blue Bears’ Secondary as he collected 4
tackles (3 solo, 1 assisted),
including 2 hits for a loss of 20 yards, one sack for a loss of 19
yards and had 3 pass break-ups
in the Eagles’ 37-6 win over Livingstone.
Rookie
Richard Boone – Saint Augustine’s, P/PR,
5’9”, 165, Petersburg, VA
In the 3rd quarter, Boone returned a punt for a 64-yard touchdown
to give the Falcons an 8-3 lead over the Broncos. He also faked a
punt and ran 19 yards for a first down in the 4th quarter.
Speciality
De’Audra Dix – Johnson C. Smith, KR,
5’10”, 170, JR, Merritt Island, FL
Dix had two kick-off returns for 92 yards and a touchdown in the
Golden Bulls 27-6 victory over Division I-AA Savannah State. His
longest return was for a 74-yard touchdown.

Coach McNeill guided the Golden Bulls to 27-6 Homecoming win over
Division I-AA opponent Savannah State University. This is first win
over Savannah State in the school’s history.
Pioneer Bowl Watch
Time is winding down towards the Pioneer Bowl. With five
teams still in the running towards selection, the final week of
CIAA football will determine who will take a step closer the
Charlotte in December.
