Golden Bulls Make It Two in a Row with Win over Glenville State

A week after snapping a 24-game losing streak, quarterback Carl Richardson's  touchdown pass to Marquis Belton late in the fourth quarter gave Johnson C. Smith the lead as the Golden Bulls rallied to beat the Glenville State Pioneers 23-20 yesterday in West Virginia.

The Golden Bulls found themselves down 20-9 in the third quarter when they began their comeback.  Richardson engineered a 10-play, 73 yard drive that culminated in his 11-yard touchdown pass to Brett Lofton.  Herbert Collins kicked the PAT as Smith cut Glenville States' lead to 20-16.

Smith got the go ahead score when Richardson drove the Golden Bulls 65 yards in eight plays and connected with Belton on a 12-yard touchdown pass to give Smith a 23-20 lead with 3:12 left in the game.

It appeared that Belton's heroics would go for naught as the Pioneers took the ensuing possession, and quickly drove the ball down to the JCSU 5-yard line with under a minute remaining.  With Glenville State knocking on the door with 35 seconds left, quarterback Mike Williams' pass on 2nd  down and goal  was deflected at the line of scrimmage and intercepted by  defensive lineman Donald Haynesworth to seal the victory and give Johnson C. Smith its first 2-0 start since 1982.
