Little is Big in Panther Blowout
SALISBURY, NC- Quarterback Lamar Little accounted for 298 yards of total offense and four touchdowns and a stingy defense limited Livingstone to 128 yards of total offense and no touchdowns as Virginia Union improved to 3-0 with a 45-7 dismantling of host Livingstone College.
Little's only mistake in an otherwise sterling performance led directly to Livingstone's only touchdown of the day when Bernard Taylor scooped up a fumble by Little and returned it 35 yards for a score as the Blue Bears took a 7-0 first quarter lead.
Unfazed by the turnover, Little went to work, passing for 152 yards and three touchdowns and rushing for a game-high 146 yards (16.2 yards per carry) and another score as the Panthers scored 45 unanswered points to cruise to their first conference win of the season.
In addition to Little, the Panthers got big contributions from tailback Elihu Smith who rushed for 91 yards and a touchdown and receiver Phillip Taylor, who caught four passes for 117 yards (29.2 yards per catch) and two scores, including a 90-yard TD in the third quarter.
Up next for the Panthers is a matchup with conference foe Saint Paul's in Lawrenceville. Livingstone will look to pick up their first win of the season when they play host to Virginia State.
