CIAA Football Players of the Week- Week Five

Offensive Lineman of the Week:
Ralph Manns, Jr., JCSU, Sr., OL, 6-3, 290, Atlanta, GA
Ralph Manns, Jr. anchored an offensive line that had 364 yards of
total offense; the best offensive production all season. He had no
penalties against and the line only gave up one sack versus
arguably the best defensive line in the conference. (St.
Augustine's College).
Receiver of the Week:
Jeremy Franklin, JCSU, Fr., WR, 6-3, 200, Castleberry,
FL
Franklin had 5 receptions for 176 yards and one touchdown. He had a
99-yard pass reception breaking JCSU's 26-year old record of 93
yards.
Offensive Back of the Week:
Carlton Richardson, JCSU, QB, Jr., 6-2, 180, Columbia, SC
Carlton completed 11-of-22 passes for 222 yards and a
touchdown. He also had 8 carries for 31 yards. He headlined an
offense that registered 364 yards of total offense, the most this
season. Richardson also etched his name in the JCSU history books
with a 99-yard pass play to Jeremy Franklin breaking the 26-year
old record of 93 yards.
Defensive Lineman of the Week:
Brandon Smith, VUU, SO, LB, 6-0, 215, Virginia Beach,
VA
In their win against St. Paul's College, Smith had a stellar
defensive showing for the Panthers, turning in 3 sacks for a loss
of 18 yards, 13 total tackles (9 solo, 4 assisted) including 6 for
a loss of 29 yards and one forced fumble.
Defensive Back of the Week:
Steven Williams, JCSU, Jr., FS, 6-2, 200, Washington, DC
Williams was all over the field with 6 total tackles (3
solo, 3 assisted), one interception, one pass break-up, and one
blocked kick. His blocked PAT attempt late in the game forced the
Falcons to re-kick in order to tie the game. His interception on
the last play of the game saved the hail-mary try by the Falcons
and kept JCSU in the win column.
Rookie of the Week:
Brandon Fortune, VSU, DL, 6-3, 260, Fredericksburg, VA
Fortune raised terror against the Livingstone offense all
day in VSU's 30-7 rout of the Livingstone Blue Bears. Fortune had
two sacks, led VSU with five tackles, forced a fumble and broke up
a pass in the win.
Specialty Player of the Week:
Herbert Collins, III, JCSU, Sr., Kicker, 5-10, 180, Clinton,
MD
Collins was perfect on the day converting 4-of-4 field goals (30,
30, 30, 25) and 2-of-2 PAT's. His last field goal came with :08
seconds left in regulation to propel JCSU to a 33-30 victory over
St. Augustine's College.
Coach of the Week:
Daryl C. McNeill, Sr., Johnson C. Smith University
Coach McNeill guided his team to a 33-30 thrilling
victory over St. Augustine's College. This is the first time JCSU
has defeated SAC since they reinstated the program in 2002.
Notes of Interest: JCSU's 99-yard pass play for a touchdown from Carlton Richardson to Jeremy Franklin broke a school record. The longest pass play up until this point was a 93-yard play from John Henry Thomas to Vince Casey vs. Livingstone in 1981.
