PANTHERS IMPROVE TO 5-0 WITH WIN OVER FALCONS

RICHMOND, VA- Lamar Little threw for 220 yards and two touchdowns and Gil Hernandez kicked three field goals as the Virginia Union Panthers kept their unblemished record intact with a 30-14 win over the visiting Saint Augustine's Falcons yesterday in Richmond.

Following Hernandez's first field goal of the day, a 25-yarder that gave the Panthers a 3-0 lead, Little tossed his  9th and 10th touchdowns of the season when he connected with receiver Terrence Cunningham on  scoring passes of 18 and 22 yards as VUU opened up a 17-0 first half lead.

In the third quarter, Hernandez booted field goals of 39 and 30 yards as the Panthers extended their lead to 23-0 over the winless Falcons. Saint Augustine's finally got on the scoreboard as the third quarter expired when Lendell Bembo, scored on a 9-yard pass from Anthony Brown to cut the lead to 23-7.

Little would thwart any hopes of a Falcon comeback on the ensuing drive when he capped a nine-play, 65-yard drive with an 8-yard touchdown run, his fourth rushing TD of the season, to push the Panthers' lead to 30-7 early in the fourth quarter.

Saint Augustine's would get a final score from Koi Slaughter, who recovered a fumble in the end zone, to make the score 30-14 midway through the fourth quarter, but the Falcons were ultimately outdone by a Panther defense that recorded four sacks and picked off five passes while limiting two SAC quarterbacks to 91 combined passing yards.

Next week the Panthers take on defending Eastern Division champion Elizabeth City State in a huge divisional contest, while Saint Augustine's will be looking for their first win of the season when they host Virginia State in Raleigh.
