Offensive Lineman of the Week: Manuel Becker, Virginia
State University
Position: OL Height: 6-5 Weight: 315 Class: JR Hometown: Ridgeway,
VA
Comments: Becker commanded an offensive line which allowed VSU
rushers to run for 300 yards and 582 total offensive yards as VSU
downed Lincoln 54-0.
Receiver of the Week: Jerome Choice, Virginia State
University
Position: WR Height: 6-3 Weight: 225 Class: SR Hometown: Richmond,
VA
Comments: Choice caught three passes for three touchdowns in
Virginia State University's 54-0 win over Lincoln University on
Saturday. Choice had 49 yards in receiving yardage and moved into a
tie for sixth-place among the all-time leaders at VSU in touchdown
receptions with 15 career touchdowns.
Offensive Back of the Week: Carlton Richardson, Johnson C.
Smith University
Position: Quarterback Height: 6-2 Weight: 190 Class: Sr. Hometown:
Columbia, S.C.
Comments: Richardson made the most of his last Homecoming as a
Golden Bull completing 22 of 39 pass attempts for 327 yards and a
career high 5 touchdowns in the 51-36 victory over Chowan.
Richardson also used his legs to the tune of 64 yards for a total
of 391 yards of total offense.
Defensive Lineman of the Week: Marcus Crump, Saint
Augustine's College
Position: DE Height: 6-6 Weight: 24- Class: R-Jr Hometown:
Pittsboro, NC
Comments: Crump had eight tackles including 3.5 tackles for loss, 3
sacks and 1 forced fumble in a 20-16 loss to Fayetteville
State.
Linebacker of the Week: Robert Massey-Brice, Livingstone
College
Position: LB Height: 5-8 Weight: 190 Class: FR Hometown:
Charlotte, NC
Comments: Massey-Brice had a game for the ages. He had a season
high 18 total tackles (3 for a loss of 7 yards), 1 forced fumble
and 1 interception.
Defensive Back of the Week: Andre Lipscomb, Virginia State
University
Position: DB Height: 6-0 Weight: 178 Class: SR Hometown: Richmond,
VA
Comments: Lipscomb tied for a team-high in tackles with seven,
including five solo tackles. He also had an interception and
recovered a fumble. Lipscomb also forced another fumble and had two
tackles for a loss of 34 yards.
Rookie of the Week: Babaside Onadipe, Virginia State
University
Position: FB Height: 5-10 Weight: 185 Class: FR Hometown:
Colonial Heights, VA
Comments: Onadipe came off of the bench late in the second quarter
to replace an injured Taron Hampton, and rushed for 154 yards on 28
carries in his first collegiate game. Onadipe also scored his first
career touchdown and averaged 5.5 yards per carry in VSU's 54-0 win
over Lincoln University; a game which was played in a driving
rainstorm.
Specialty Player of the Week: Julius Wright, Johnson C.
Smith University
Position: K/P Height: 6-2 Weight: 195 Class: So. Hometown: Fort
Worth, Texas
Comments: Wright had an overall great kicking and punting day. He
was 1-1 for field goals (29 yards), 5-6 in PAT attempts, had 9
kickoffs for 574 yards and one touchback averaging 63.8 yards per
kickoff, 5 punts for 181 yards, one inside the 20 averaging 36.1
yards per punt. In addition, Wright was still able to get a punt
off after a bad snap sailed over his head. He dodged defenders and
turned a bad situation into a positive one. He also helped his team
defensively by recording two solo tackles stopping two near kickoff
returns for touchdowns by Chowan.
Coach of the Week: Waverly Tillar, Elizabeth City State
University
Comments: Coach Tillar and the Vikings captured their second CIAA
Divisional Crown in the past three seasons with their 39-9 win over
Saint Paul's. ECSU is 6-0 against CIAA opponents and the Vikings
are now the first team since the conference championship
game’s resurrection in 2000 to secure their Championship
berth before the final weekend of competition.
