JCSU'S DE’AUDRA DIX AND THE MONTREAL ALOUETTES WIN
CFL GREY CUP
Calgary, Canada – Johnson C. Smith graduate and former
football student-athlete De’Audra Dix helped the Montreal
Alouettes to a thrilling 28-27 win over the Saskatchewan
Roughriders at the Canadian Football League’s 97th Grey Cup
on November 29th.
Dix completed his rookie season as a defensive back with 15
tackles (4 solo) and one interception, which was returned for 41
yards. He played in 10 games this year. He played in 10 games this

Dix played defensive back for the Golden Bulls from 2004-07. On
defense he recorded 121 tackles, 13 interceptions, 250 return
yards, and one touchdown. Dix was a return specialist with 1,708
kickoff return yards off 64 attempts, three kickoffs returned for
touchdowns, 197 punt return yards, and one punt returned for a
touchdown.
“It’s great to see one of our own flourish in the
world and bring production to a professional football
program,” said JCSU head coach Steven Aycock. “Winning
a championship is a difficult task on any level and I know he and
his family are very excited about his career blossoming.
De’Audra had a great work ethic here at JCSU, so if he
continues to work hard and stay committed at his craft, the
sky’s the limit.”
Though in his first year as head coach at JCSU; Aycock spent the
previous seasons supervising football operations, recruiting, and
coaching the offensive line from 2005-08.
The Montreal Alouettes clinched the East Division this season with
a 15-3 overall record (best in the league). It took a lucky break
on the final play of the game for the Alouettes to bring home the
Grey Cup.
Kicker Damon Duval was given another kick attempt due to a
penalty, after missing what could have been the game-winning kick.
He made good on his second chance from 33 yards to lift the
Alouettes to a stunning 28-27 victory over the Saskatchewan in a
classic CFL championship game. Montreal posted their sixth Cup win
overall.
