CIAA Football Players of the Week- Week Three

Offensive Lineman of the Week:  Terry Jones, Elizabeth City State
Position:  Center  Height:  6-1  Weight:  260  Class:  Jr  Hometown:  Charlotte, NC 
Comments:  Jones led an offensive unit that racked up 492 total yards while surrendering no sacks in Vikings 49-29 win over Tusculum College. ECSU gained 297 yards on the ground and averaged 7.2 yards per play.  The Vikings made all six touchdowns on the ground. 

Receiver of the Week: Robert Holland, Chowan
Position:  WR  Height:  6-2  Weight:  175  Class:  Fr  Hometown:  Newport News, VA 
Comments:  Robert Holland had a break out game in his first start against collegiate competition with 8 catches for 169 yards and two touchdowns in a tough 27-24 loss at Brevard College on Saturday. 

Offensive Back of the Week: Ryan Carter, Johnson C. Smith
Position:  Quarterback  Height:  5'11  Weight:  175  Class:  Jr  Hometown:  Charlotte, NC 
Comments:  Ryan Carter was named Offensive Player of the Game in a 27-14 win over Edward Waters. Carter racked up 327 yards of total offense (200 passing, 127 rushing). He also threw for two touchdowns and rushed for one. 

Defensive Lineman of the Week: Malcolm Jenkins, Elizabeth City State
Position:  DE  Height:  6-5  Weight:  235  Class:  Jr  Hometown:  Florence, NJ 
Comments:  Jenkins led the Vikings in limiting Tusculum to just 73 yards on the ground in ECSU's win over the Pioneers. Jenkins finished the game with a team high six tackles (5 solo, 1 assisted) including 3.5 tackles for a loss of 12 yards, one forced fumble, three quarterback hurries and 2.5 sacks for a loss of 10 yards. 

Linebacker of the Week: Jamal Gourdine, Virginia State
Position:  LB  Height:  6-1  Weight:  200  Class:  FR  Hometown:  Virginia Beach, VA 
Comments:  Gourdine recovered two fumbles, including one for a touchdown; he also forced two more fumbles and had four tackles in VSU's 38-6 win over Lincoln (Mo.). 

Defensive Back of the Week: Jeffery Gowdy, Fayetteville State
Position:  FS  Height:  5-11  Weight:  185  Class:  SR  Hometown:  Jacksonville, NC 
Comments:  Gowdy had nine tackles...six solo and three assisted...and picked off two interceptions.

Rookie of the Week: Daronte McNeill, Elizabeth City State
Position:  Running Back  Height:  6-1  Weight:  235  Hometown:  Elizabeth City, NC 
Comments:  McNeill collected his second 100 plus yard rushing game this season against Tusculum on Saturday. He ran for 107 yards on 17 carries including three of ECSU's six rushing touchdowns (two which came in the second half). His TD runs went for five yards, 24 yards and 23 yards. The Vikings topped Tusculum 49-29.

Specialty Player of the Week: Austin Turner, Fayetteville State
Position:  Kicker  Height:  6-0  Weight:  247  Class:  SO  Hometown:  San Diego, CA 
Comments:  Turner kicked 3 of 4 field goals with the longest of 49 yards...punted six times for 230 yards...three inside the 20 and one touchback...longest punt of 46 yards...averaged 60.1 yards on seven kickoffs...with one TB.. Turner's FGs help the Broncos to a 30-20 win over Bowie State. 

Coach of the Week: Waverly Tillar, Elizabeth City State
Comments:  ECSU snapped an 0-8 game losing steak to out of conference opponents with the Vikings' win over Tusculum; their first ever win over a member of the South Atlantic Conference.
