CIAA Football Players of the Week- Week Four

Offensive Lineman of the Week: Malcolm Speller, Bowie State

Position:
 OL Height:  6-3  Weight:  280  Class:  R-Fr  Hometown:  Baltimore, MD 
Comments:  Speller was instrumental in helping Bowie State roll up a Bulldogs' school record 594 yards in total offense; which included a BSU record of 456 rushing yards. 

Receiver of the Week: Kevin Hodrick, Chowan 

Position:
 WR  Height:  6-2  Weight:  205  Class:  JR  Hometown:  Carson, CA 
Comments:  Junior WR Kevin Hodrick caught 8 passes for 87 yards and three touchdowns in a 35-30 loss to Elizabeth City State University. Hodrick caught TD passes of 11, 4, and 6 yards with a long of 21 yards. 

Offensive Back of the Week: CJ Westler, Chowan

Position:
 Quarterback  Height:  5-10  Weight:  210  Class:  SR  Hometown:  Marion, OH 
Comments:  CJ Westler was dominant on the Chowan offense despite a 35-30 loss at Elizabeth City State University on Saturday. Westler had a record-setting day with 152 yards rushing from the quarterback position on 21 carries while also throwing for 382 yards on 28 of 48 completions. He had four touchdown passes for the day. Westler helped the Hawks to 582 yards of offense in the game while setting personal bests on the ground and in the air. 

Defensive Lineman of the Week: Malcolm Jenkins, Elizabeth City State

 DE  Height:  6-5  Weight:  235  Class:  JR  Hometown:  Florence, NJ 
Comments:  Jenkins had a stellar game against Chowan with 8 tackles (6 solo, 2 assisted), two sacks for a loss of 11 yards, 3.0 tackles for a loss of 17 yards, one forced fumble, two pass breakups and eight quarterback hurries. 

Linebacker of the Week: Kobi Williams, Elizabeth City State

Position:
 LB  Height:  6-2  Weight:  200  Class:  JR  Hometown:  Washington, DC 
Comments:  Williams was superb in the Vikings' win at the Down East Classic with 10 solo tackles, 1.0 for a loss of two yards, two forced fumbles (both inside the Vikings' five yard line) and an interception returned 63 yards for a touchdown. His last forced fumble preserved the win for ECSU as the strip came at the Vikings' 1-yard line with 1:12 left in the game. 

Defensive Back of the Week: Quintez Smith, Shaw

 CB  Height:  6-1  Weight:  187  Class:  Sr.  Hometown:  Dublin, GA 
Comments:  Smith had four solo tackles, broke up two passes, and recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown in Shaw's 68-6 win over Lincoln. 

Rookie of the Week: Robert Holland, Chowan

 WR  Height:  6-2  Weight:  175  Class:  FR  Hometown:  Newport News, VA 
Comments:  Robert Holland backed up last week's breakout performance with another solid outing at wide receiver. The freshman caught 12 of QB Westler's 28 completions for 197 total yards. He also connected with Westler on a 14 yard score in the 4th quarter in the 35-30 loss to Elizabeth City State University. He had a long reception of 33 yards in the game. 

Specialty Player of the Week: Caleb Reid, Shaw

Position:
 PK  Height:  5-11  Weight:  150  Class:  So.  Hometown:  Virconia, NC 
Comments:  Reid scored nine points for the Bears ... one at a time ... against Lincoln (PA). He was nine for nine on extra point attempts - keeping his record of perfection (4-4 field goals; 21 for 21 PATs) for the season. 

Coach of the Week: Michael Costa, Saint Augustine's College 

Comments:
 Coach Costa directed the Falcons to a 27-14 victory over Virginia State in their CIAA opener. The win was the first for the Falcons this season.
